Surviving the Night in Scribble Craft Arena: Light, Armour, Shields and Allies
Monsters come out in the dark. Learn how spawning works, what each monster does, and the tools that keep you alive until morning.
When the sun goes down in a Survival world, monsters come out. They are dangerous, but they follow clear rules — and once you know them you can make any place safe.
Rule one: monsters need darkness
Monsters appear on the surface at night, and in caves at any time of day — but never within six blocks of a light: a torch, campfire, furnace, lava or glow berries. Light up your base and the paths around it and nothing will appear there. Torches are cheap (a stick and a piece of coal), so carry a stack everywhere.

Know your enemies
Monsters see what is in front of them — roughly a 110° view — or anything very close. You can sometimes sneak past one that is looking the other way, but once it spots you it remembers you for a few seconds. Solid walls block their view completely.
- Ghoul — walks at you and hits hard. Burns in sunlight.
- Boomer — creeps close and explodes, destroying blocks. Keep your distance — and keep a cat nearby; Boomers avoid cats.
- Skeleton — shoots arrows from a distance. Burns in sunlight. Drops bones.
- Spider — fast and jumpy. Drops string for bows and spider eyes.
- Cave spider — small and poisonous, near mineshafts.
- Slime — bounces around swamps at night and splits into two small slimes when hit hard.
- Illager patrols — Pillagers, Vindicators and Witches that attack villages at night.

Armour and a shield
Wear a helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots — leather, gold, iron or diamond — to soften every hit. Tap a piece in your bag to wear it; the armour total shows above the slots. A shield in the off-hand slot blocks two thirds of a hit from the front and stops arrows completely. Armour and shields wear out, so carry spares on long trips.
Fight from a distance
A bow (sticks and wool or string) lets you hit monsters before they reach you; a crossbow hits harder and flies straighter but reloads more slowly. Arrows are made from a thorn, a stick and a feather. Every monster you defeat drops experience orbs.

Allies: wolves and golems
Feed a wild wolf a few bones and it becomes yours — a red collar appears, it follows you everywhere and attacks monsters that come near. In villages, the Iron Golem guards the villagers and smashes any monster that wanders in. And if you would rather skip the night entirely, sleep in a bed: it moves time to morning and sets your respawn point.
A safe plan for your very first night
- Before sunset, collect wood and some coal, craft a crafting table, a wooden sword and a stack of torches.
- Head for the village the compass points to — it has beds, light and an Iron Golem on guard.
- No village nearby? Dig two blocks into a hillside, close the opening behind you and place a torch inside. You are completely safe.
- Use the time: craft, sort your bag, smelt in a furnace if you have one.
- Sleep if you can. Three wool and three planks make a bed; sleeping skips to morning and sets where you come back if you fall.
- At sunrise, ghouls and skeletons burn in the sun — wait a moment before you step outside.
